Let's Eat! We’re On A (Sushi) Roll… and on Hibachi… And on Appetizers At Broadway’s King Kong Sushi

Celebrity chef, Nobu Matsuhisa once said, "Making sushi is an art and experience is everything."

Well, we are pretty sure the world famous chef would be totally culinary captivated at King Kong Sushi at Broadway at the Beach. On our recent visit, his quote proved true as the vibrant colors and configurations of sushi, tempura, hibachi and everything in between was delicately created and even more important, they were deliciously enjoyed. This local's favorite opened it's doors in 2009 and has been named best sushi at the beach since 2012 and from our recent visit, we can see and taste why!

As you can tell, it's easy to see why the making of sushi is an art.

But also these creations, including pork belly…

(Smoked pork belly with a touch of teriyaki sauce, topped with a special sauce)

Gyoza...

(Pork, chicken and vegetable pan fried dumplings)

And shrimp tempura...

(Shrimp and vegetables lightly battered and deep fried)

Are also appealing not only to our taste buds, but our eyes as well!

Believe it or not… these are all considered appetizers and small plates... but each could very easily pass as a very filling meal!

Want to scroll back up and be tempted by the perfectly plated pictures? Go ahead, we will wait.

Okay, now back to the deliciousness of our visit.

Our girls mid-day getaway included three different sushi rolls and if that wasn't enough (which it was), we also split a lunch portion of the chicken hibachi!

For our trio of rolls, we went with the OMG Roll and it's very easy to see where this roll gets it's name because O-M-G was it good! This roll features garlic marinated fried chicken, crab, cucumber and lettuce, topped with tempura flakes, spicy mayo, teriyaki and apple chili sauce! Again, no words are needed to describe this creation… just three little letters... O-M-G!

For the sushi selection, we enjoyed the Hurricane Roll which includes crab, cream cheese and cucumber, topped with spicy grilled crab and scallop, teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds. Then last but certainly not least, we selected the Spider Roll which features soft shell crab tempura, cucumber, avocado, smelt roe and teriyaki sauce.

We were certainly on a roll or actually a trio of sushi rolls as we were also enjoying a lunch portion of chicken hibachi! Not only did our hibachi include a big portion of freshly made chicken, rice and veggies but also miso soup and a salad with their own homemade ginger dressing.

Now, it is safe to say, our trio lunch tribe may have blown our low carb diets for the mid-day date, but it was worth every delicious bite, every carb and every calorie! But be rest assured, we ate around 1pm and that was it for the rest of the day as we were filled to our belly brim with King Kong's finest!

A visit to King Kong Sushi goes beyond the plated perfection, but also the experience of the newly renovated restaurant both inside and outside on their beautiful new patio overlooking Lake Broadway, perfect for watching fireworks at night or the jetboat by day!

And we can't forget about the beautiful bar offering cocktails, martinis, Moscow mules and everything in between!

That's not all King Kong Sushi has to offer, they even offer catering for your events.

Case and point, how cool would your next event be if you served this…

So as our quick trip to Northeast Asia came to a close in the Southeast coastal city of Myrtle Beach, we filled up and set out on a walk around Broadway at the Beach and of course, already started planning our next visit to King Kong Sushi!
