Broadway at the Beach to be the Official Lunch Stop for the 2014 Hemmings Motor News Great Race on Friday, June 27

Broadway at the Beach will be the official lunch stop for the 2014 Hemmings Motor News Great Race, presented by Hagerty, on June 27. The Great Race contestants will arrive at about 11:50 a.m., and continue arriving in one-minute increments until all 100 have arrived.

Pre-arrival festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m., in parking lots 19 & 20, on the 21st Ave. side of Broadway at the Beach, behind MagiQuest and the Carmike Cinemas. Maddie Hunt will be singing the National Anthem. As each car arrives, it will remain at Broadway at the Beach for an hour so spectators can visit with the participants and look at their cars. This event is free to the public.

The Great Race is an antique, vintage, and collector car competition. It tests each driver/navigator team's ability to follow precise course instructions and each car's (and teams) ability to endure a cross-country trip on public highways. It is not a test of speed. Course instructions require the competing teams to drive at or below posted speed limits at all times. Along the course route, there will be checkpoints recording the exact time that the team passes that point. The objective is to arrive at each checkpoint at the correct time. The race began on Saturday, June 21, in Ogunguit, Maine will end in The Villages, Fla., on Sunday June 29.
