We Went Grumpy, But Left Happy at Broadway at the Beach

Posted in Broadway at the Beach, Dining

A quick Google search of the definition of "grumpy", you find synonyms including crabby, sulky and irritable. However, we are pretty sure you wouldn't have any of those feelings when visiting the new Grumpy Monk at Broadway at the Beach. In fact, during that same google search, we found antonyms for the word Grumpy as good-humored, happy and satisfied and that describes exactly how we felt after we got our fill at the newest restaurant to join the already diverse mix of eateries at Broadway at the Beach!

So here's a few of our happy highlights from our ladies lunch visit to the Monk!

First things first… Apps!

We started with the Southwestern Spring Rolls and the Na-Na Nachos! How were the Spring Rolls, you ask? Well let's just say, they didn't last long as we quickly devoured the blackened chicken, cheddar cheese, bacon and spinach egg rolls that are served with a kicked up chipotle ranch! The Na-Na Nachos? They didn't last long either as our party of five dove right into the fresh tortilla chips layered high with queso, lettuce, jalapenos, pico de gallo, cilantro lime sauce and a choice of chicken or shaved beef. Our topping of choice this go round was chicken!

Now to the main event… our lunch time selections!

From the smothered chicken, chicken philly and Atlantic Flounder, to two different sushi selections, our table was a Hodge podge of unique and delicious creations! Each receiving great reviews between bites! Although we were loading up on the rich flavors of land and sea, we were able to swap our side dishes for salads topped with house made dressings! Trust us, if you're a ranch dressing connoisseur, the Grumpy Monk has got it going on!

As we satisfied our hunger, and turned our pre-lunch "hangry" into a post-Monk "happy", we left already making plans for our next return visit to Broadway's newest lunch, dinner and happy hour destination!

A Walk to Remember… Enjoying The Sweetness Of Broadway at the Beach

Did you know July is National Ice Cream Month?

Did you know a lap around the interior of Broadway at the Beach is roughly one mile?

Did you know you can walk a mile around Broadway all while enjoying some sweet treats along the way from six different ice cream shops?

So put on your sneakers, sandals or flip flops, we are taking a tasty tour of Broadway at the Beach!

First Stop: The New Stop…

Our journey begins with the newest ice cream that has pulled into Broadway… Waffles & Cream. Located near Joe's Crab Shack, this ice cream truck delivers more than just a scoop of the good stuff, but they also serve it on top of a warm waffle with all the dessert fixins! Here you can create your own sundae, enjoy ice cream waffle nachos or try a signature bowl including the Broadway Bowl featuring a waffle bowl with a white chocolate and rainbow sprinkled rim and two scoops of strawberry ice cream, topped with bits of strawberry glazed donuts, strawberry sauce, rainbow sprinkled and whipped cream! One word… YUM!

Second Stop: Sweet Molly's

Next we head west to the other new ice cream destination to land at Broadway at the Beach, Sweet Molly's Creamery. Located across from Yamato's Japanese Steakhouse, this light bite eatery will have you waggin' your tail just like the shop's canine companion and namesake, Molly! This family-owned and operated ice cream shop creates more than 20 unique ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet flavors! Some of our favorite flavors include, Chocolate Pecan Stir, Cotton Candy Crazy and Cookie Dough Crumble!

As we make our way further west from Sweet Molly's, we continue our journey past some of our other sweet treat favorites including It'Sugar, The Fudgery and Wee R' Sweetz!

Ladies and Gentleman… Ben & Jerry's!

This legendary duo of ice cream creators have a double dose of goodness with two locations at Broadway. The first one on our tasty trek is Ben & Jerry's South near Liberty Brewery & Grill. Our favorites? Chunky Monkey, Cherry Garcia and the classic, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

Three down… three to go!

The Classics Of Kilwins

Now that we have sampled the sweetness and walked along the southern end of Broadway, it's time to cross the bridge near WonderWorks, and into the Mediterranean Village to the next stop, Kilwins!

From confectionary creations to fudge and candies, you can find everything to satisfy your sweet tooth, but we are on a mission for ice cream and that's one item you will not want to pass up on at this sweet shop! Our go-to at Kilwins has to be the Southern Praline Pecan in a waffle cone!

Two to go... we've got this!

After Kilwins, we will start our way down past The Avenue and Paula Deen's Family Kitchen to our second stop into a Ben & Jerry's, this one on the north side of Broadway. Same great tastes, but with a different view of Lake Broadway where you can enjoy the flavors of Cinnamon Buns, Chocolate Shake It and The Tonight Dough all while watching the Beach Rider Jet Boat go by!

Now that we are closing in on that mile around Broadway, we have one more ice cream stop and this one takes us to Heroes Harbor, home of Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, River Street Sweets and Cold Stone Creamery where you mix in your own unique flavors or try one of their signature creations! From the Birthday Cake Remix, to the Cookie Minster to the Mud Pie Mojo, it is hard to top one of their signature selections, in their freshly baked waffle cones! In fact, the only thing you will want to top off their ice creams maybe a cherry!

So there you have it, a deliciously tasty tour of Broadway at the Beach, good not only during National Ice Cream month, but every day of the year!

A Little Sweet... A Little Salty… And A Whole Lot Of Southern Living

Do you have one of those places that just makes you think of home? Or a certain dish that makes you think about Grandma's cooking? Or a piece of décor that makes you relive memories of a southern summer? During our recent visit to the Southern Living Store at Broadway at the Beach, we experienced all of the above, taking home something sweet, something salty and of course, something southern!

Some Southern Sweetness

Muffins… pancakes… and pound cakes… oh my! The sweetness of the south can be tasted through the many mixes, sweet jellies and the sweet teas of the Charleston Tea Plantations, all of which we found here.

Some Southern Saltiness

No, we're not talking about that southern sass you may experience when someone becomes a little "hangry." Rather, the saltiness we are talking about comes in the form of peppered relish, dilly beans and spices! Whether you enjoy them as a stand-alone snack or add them to your own recipe, these tasty treats will add a little zip to your dips, dinners and everything in between.

Speaking of recipes, need to impress the neighbors, friends or the in-laws when they make those unannounced visits? You can always get in the kitchen and whip up something sweet or savory with the help of a cook book, and at the Southern Living Store you'll find a plethora of palatable options to aid you in filling the bellies of those you love!

Home Sweet Southern Home

From pillows, to flowers, to signs and more, you can add just a touch of southern chic or redecorate your home with the finds in this store! One of our favorites? The wall of signs!

You can also find dishware…

Napkins…

Mugs…

Furniture…

Candles…

Pillows...

And even fashion!

So the next time you need to find some sweet (and salty) southern charm, just visit the Southern Living Store at Broadway at the Beach!
