Hooray For Hollywood! Catch Up On Movies As The Oscars Approach

It's that time of year when the stars come out to celebrate the movies and dazzle us as they walk the red carpet in their fashion forward best. Are you ready?

If you haven't had time to catch up on your movie viewing, why not make a special weekend of it? Spend Friday night, Saturday and a Sunday matinee catching the films you have on your personal, untapped list of “must sees.” You know what they are — those that captured your attention with their trailers, but that you never got around to seeing.

It's time to binge watch at the movies in preparation for the Oscars' broadcast Sunday night.

First stop is Carmike Cinema Broadway 17 which is overflowing with good new movies to choose from. From fun romps like Kung Fu Panda 3 and Zoolander 2, to Oscar nominees Brooklyn, Spotlight and The Revenant, there's a world of entertainment just inside the Carmike door — right after you pick up a big tub of popcorn and an ice cold drink.

For those who like their films big and bold, cruise on over to the BigD and immerse yourself in the full digital experience with Deadpool. Sit back in the large, comfortable seats and take in the action on a screen that's 82 feet wide and over 3 stories tall. Experience the latest in 7.1 surround sound and digital projection that place you right in the middle of the action.

It's Oscar weekend. Why not lose yourself in the fantasy and fun of films? After all, movies really are the stuff that dreams are made of.

How Much Will Your Kids Love The KidzTime Festival?

Have your kids ever been to the KidzTime Festival at Broadway at the Beach? If not, now is the time to take them. We guarantee they'll love it.

If they've been to the event before, it's likely that they already are asking you to take them again this year.

Several new activities have been added for 2016, including the Game Truck Party where kids can play various video games; pony rides from 5 Star Farms; and craft painting with Innovations Artists’ Emporium.

This is the 15th time we've hosted this family-friendly event which is free and open to the public. So, mark your calendar for Saturday, February 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and join us for the fun!

Thundering into the festival at 11:30 a.m. and staying until 3:30 p.m. is Marvel Comics Superhero THOR. His electrifying special visit (sponsored by Time Warner Cable) will give kids an opportunity to get up close and personal with the comic book and movie hero.

When not meeting THOR, children can participate in a variety of kid-friendly games and interactive activities. A stage inside a large, circus-style tent will be the place to see live performances provided by Broadway at the Beach and WBTW spokeskid, Lance Stevens; the Johnny Rockets dancers; and Ripley’s Aquarium's RUCKUS. There will even be a fashion show from Sparkles, featuring Mini Starz & The Character Company.

Again this year, Broadway is delivering five hours of rollicking, energy-burning fun, with mascot appearances, face painting, spin art, and even some sparkly nail painting. The popular petting zoo and trackless train rides are back, and there will also be a fire engine on display, along with spin-to-win wheels, and bouncy houses.

Join us in parking lot 17, located next to Pavilion Park West and WonderWorks, on the 21st Avenue North side of the property where you'll be able to check out more than 40 vendors located inside and outside our tent.

Big Changes Are Coming To Broadway!

Posted in Broadway at the Beach, Featured Posts

When it opened in 1995, Broadway at the Beach brought a new kind of shopping, dining and entertainment experience to the Carolina coast. Modeled after some of the nation's best entertainment districts at that time, it rapidly became a popular gathering place for locals, and soon was attracting 14 million tourists a year. Today, it's the number one tourist destination in all of South Carolina.

After 20 years, Broadway is getting a facelift. Just this week, our parent company, Burroughs & Chapin, pulled back the curtain to reveal the first step of a planned multiyear transformation of Broadway. First up: our entertainment and nightlife section which is currently known as Celebrity Square.

Our newly-designed entertainment area will have a mix of great national brands, up-and-coming concepts, and favorites that appeal to the whole family. Everything, including our common areas, will reflect a new overall theme.

Here are some of the exciting things we have coming up:

Dave & Buster's recently signed a lease with Burroughs & Chapin to add a Dave & Buster's location at Broadway at the Beach. Known as the only place where you can eat, drink, play, and watch sports, Dave & Buster’s is all about entertaining the guest, delivering the latest and greatest games, ultimate sports viewing, and extraordinary food and drinks.

Hard Rock Café Myrtle Beach is moving to an interior, corner location that will be the new entryway to our redesigned entertainment and nightlife area. In its new location, Hard Rock will be able to seat 528 guests, feature private event space, patio seating, and a live music stage. Music memorabilia from new and legendary artists will still be on display and the Rock Shop will be loaded with souvenir goodies.

The operators of Wicked Tuna in Murrells Inlet, S.C., and Enso Asian Bar & Sushi in Charlotte, N.C., are opening a new culinary and craft beer experience — American Tap House. This will be a chef-driven American gastropub dedicated to the art of fine food and beer. Look for it to have 40 regional and local American craft beers on tap, as well as unique craft food inspired by American comfort food with a southern twist.

Celebrations Nitelife is introducing a new nightlife experience unlike any other in the area. OZ is set to open this spring, and each night, it will have a different themed look, feel and design. You'll see it transform right before your eyes. One time you'll be looking at the lights of Paris and the next, the rings of Saturn. Expect it to be a true out-of-this-world experience.

But what about some other favorites? Broadway Louie's, also part of Celebrations Nitelife, recently moved to a new corner location near the comedy club. Stop by to enjoy its new full-food menu and outside patio bar. The award-winning Broadway Jake's All Star Karaoke is still going strong each night.

As for Malibu's Surf Bar, Crocodile Rocks, Original Shucker's Raw Bar and Carolina Comedy Club — you'll still be able to find them where they've always been!

Changes are just beginning for Broadway. So stop by and check them out!
